How Lucid Dreaming Can Improve Your Creativity While You Sleep by Rosanna Casper
by Rosanna Casper
The Divas Recommend this week takes a slight detour from the normal articles about writing and authoring and improving our craft and dives headlong into the pool of lucid dreaming to improve our creativity. I will admit, I am usually the first one to brush aside anything New Age or touting the benefits of crystals to repair the harmonic imbalance in my life. I’m just not cut from that cloth, but as I get older, I find that I am open to new (to me, at least) or less traditional options to explore. So when I read the title of this article on the Pick Crew blog about improving creativity through lucid dreaming and sleep, I thought, I can do this in my sleep? Sign me up!
If you’ve ever had a dream where you were aware you were dreaming and could control the direction of the dream, you’re lucid dreaming. And while I have done this from time to time, it’s not something I’d set out to do, so it doesn’t happen with any consistency. But the idea that I could learn to purposefully use lucid dreaming to improve my creativity or solve problems really intrigued me. Seriously, the idea of being able to work through a troublesome plot hole or find ways to make my story better while I sleep? GOLDEN!
If you’re still skeptical about the idea, don’t be. You’ll be surprised at the well-known authors Casper mentions in the article who have used lucid dreaming to improve their creativity. Check out Rosanna Casper’s article How Lucid Dreaming Can Improve Your Creativity While You Sleep by Rosanna Casper and let me know what you think. Does the idea of using lucid dreaming to improve creativity sound like a good one or is it a bunch of mumbo jumbo? Let me know!
Now… go write something!

Hi Janine,
Good article and subject. I’ve been lucid dreaming off and on for years. I find that when I’m in the process of creating, it happens more often. As a professional fine artist, I’ve finished a few paintings as a result of my lucid dreams. At first though, I thought I needed a psychiatrist–that I was going mad. However, she said it’s actually common for artistic/creative people to naturally lucid dream. It’s wonderful, but I haven’t seemed to have them yet with my writing. We’ll see . . .
It’s nice to get confirmation that we’re not crazy, right? Luckily I have a daughter who wants to be a psychologist, so she’s always quick to let me know if I’m losing my marbles. Ha-ha! Now that I know lucid dreaming can be used to enhance my creativity, I’m going to develop it beyond a fun happenstance. Good luck with your painting and writing, and keep me posted. I’d like to know if you can make it work as you write. Thanks for commenting!
